They were cast for their cuteness and acting abilities and they began a life of fame and noteriety with their television roles as children. Watching them when they were young we thought, “Awwww. What a cute kid.” As adults they surely would’ve turned out pretty cute as well, right? Not so much. Whether it’s because of choices they’ve made with the money they made, or because somehow those once quirky and adorable features didn’t end up flattering the face of an adult, we can’t help but ask ourselves, “What happened?” After reading about child stars who avoided the downfall of early fame, seeing these stars today we might not have ever guessed that they were once so cute.
Frankie Muniz was the most adorable little boy on “Malcolm in the Middle” back in the day. He had huge blue eyes and freckles and was such a charismatic child actor. Now that he’s grown…I dunno…he’s just lost that cute face and now he sort of looks older beyond his years. There’s even a bit of a receding hair line going on and a look in his eyes like he’s just seen too much.
It didn’t have to be this way Taylor. You are still beautiful, you just choose to hide it all beneath several inches of dark black eyeliner and ripped fishnets and long fake extensions. Taylor Momsen starred on several commercials and television shows as a young girl and also played Cindy Lou Who in “The Grinch” with Jim Carrey. Now that she’s grown she’s rebelling against her sweet image but she’s also rebelling against herself with that makeup.
Haley Joel Osment
He was one of the most loved child stars of the 90′s with a variety of appearances on shows and movies both. His cute jack-o-lantern grin and and sweet expressions somehow haven’t quite translated into stud muffin status. It wasn’t that long ago that he was so young and cute, so how is it that he already looks like a middle-aged man who works long hours in an office?
Was there ever a kid cuter than McCauly Culkin was on “Home Alone”? He made many television appearances and cameos as his popularity rose. Once he reached his teens his adorable appeal seemed to fade and he became rather, dare we say, ugly? Yikes.
Mischa Barton is another example of a child star who was really adorable and didn’t necessarily outgrow her looks. Her supposed difficulties with alcohol and drug abuse may have made their impact on her pretty face.
It’s always a bit awkward to see cute children grow up to be less than attractive adults. Perhaps many of these stars might consider speaking to audiences on how to avoid similar fates?
