Hispanic Stars Who Became Adoptive Moms

Lyan Babilonia / Updated Apr 29, 2024 | Pub. Feb 23, 2024

Lots of famous adoptive moms have inspired their fans. Their kids have been born from their hearts, and their stories are often beautiful examples of love.

Adoption can bring joy to women who struggle with infertility or dream of giving a home to a child in need.

Considering adoption after infertility can raise many questions because no one wants to make the wrong decision [1]. The most common dilemma is: How do I know if I’m ready to adopt after infertility? If this is your situation, ask yourself if you are doing it because it’s your only option or because you feel hopeful and positive about adoption.

It’s also important to give yourself time to overcome grief and recognize that you may not have a biological child.

Of course, knowing others’ stories could help you identify if that’s what you want. Many Hispanic stars on DishLATINO’s programming are very open about their cases.

Check out their stories here.

Celebrities Proud to be Adoptive Moms

Mexican singer Yuri has spoken openly about the adoption of her daughter Camila back in 2009.

Yuri and her husband Rodrigo were blessed with 7-month old Camila after struggling with several miscarriages. The talented singer also feared complications in pregnancy due to an episode her mother experienced with her brother, so she decided to resort to adoption.

Laura Flores is another Mexican singer, presenter, and actress who relied on adoption to expand her family. She has two adopted children and two biological ones. You’ve probably caught her story on Univision or Telemundo, where she’s shared her inspiring journey to motherhood multiple times.

After finally conceiving her first child Maria through IVF, then welcoming her son Patricio after even more treatments, Laura still dreamed of having a big family. This led her down the path of adoption.

In 2008, after waiting through lots of paperwork, she brought one-year-old Alejandro home. A year later, three-month-old Ana Sofia joined them as well.

Laura says there’s no difference in how much she loves all her children.

Premonition Leads to Adoption

For singer and actress Susana Zabaleta, the arrival of her first daughter Elizabeta made her a mother. Six years later, she just had a feeling another baby was meant for their family.

That premonition led her to adopt her son Matias. As she describes, “People can’t understand what you can feel for someone who is not of your blood. When I saw him, I reached out my arms, and he reached out to me, and from that moment on, we didn’t separate. When I hugged him, I felt that God does exist."

Actress Karyme Lozano is another personality who adopted not just one, but two babies through California’s foster care system.

Lozano was already set to adopt Mateo when she learned he was going to have a sister. She happily took them both into her loving home. They completed the family with her husband and her oldest biological daughter, who recently made her a grandma.

Though it is possible to adopt a baby from foster care like Lozano did, the children are often older. The median age is eight years old.

Like California, several states require that families seeking to adopt experience fostering before becoming legal parents. This way, they have a chance to assess whether they could develop a permanent attachment to each other.

To become a parent through the Department of Social Services, you must pass their screening process and demonstrate that you will be capable of guiding a child [2].

The adoption story of TV journalist Maria Celeste Arraras will melt your heart too.

She dreamed of adopting long before she married and had her first son Julian. So not long after Julian’s birth, she and her husband began the journey of adopting a baby boy from Russia.

The process began when Adrian was 13 months old, but it wasn’t until he was 16 months old that they were able to bring him to the United States. At that time, Arraras was pregnant with her daughter, Lara.

She wasn’t able to travel to pick him up due to her pregnancy, but her mom and now ex-husband brought her this gift of love.

If you plan to adopt abroad, you may be aware that Adoption Services Agencies are responsible for providing adoption services in compliance with federal regulations. Currently, there are two entities that could assist you in the process: the Intercountry Adoption Accreditation and Maintenance Entity and the Center for Excellence in Adoption Services [3].

However, keep in mind that if you adopt in the United States, your child could benefit from college tuition, medical services, and more, as is the case in Florida [4]. All states have incentives for adoption.

Big Names in Hollywood Who Adopted Children

Switch your DISH programming to English and you’ll find even more celebrity moms who adopted kids.

Angelina Jolie’s adoptions have drawn tons of positive attention and admiration over the years.

Her first was seven-month-old Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 when she was still single. Filming Lara Croft in Cambodia exposed her to the struggles of orphans in the country, and she felt called to adopt little Maddox.

In 2005, she adopted her second child Zahara, a six month baby girl from Ethiopia. Angelina had done humanitarian work in Ethiopia and worried for the many orphans in need of homes there.

Pax, a three-year-old boy from Vietnam, joined the family in 2007.

Throughout the years, Angelina has been a vocal advocate for international adoption. Her big heart and willingness to open her home to children in need has inspired so many.

She and Brad Pitt also have three biological kids.

Nicole Kidman’s adoption story is intriguing too, but she’s kept it private over the years.

During her marriage to Tom Cruise, they adopted two children – daughter Isabella and son Connor (born in 1992 and 1995). After their highly publicized divorce, Kidman has been quiet about it.

But she has spoken of her lifelong desire for a big family. Later she had two more daughters, Sunday and Faith, with Keith Urban.

Oscar winner Charlize Theron is also an adoptive mother. She adopted her first child Jackson in 2012 and then baby girl August in 2015.

Theron has said being raised in South Africa exposed her to children in need, which opened her heart to adoption. Now, she and her kids happily make a family of three.

Sandra Bullock has another sweet adoption story. She brought home son Louis in 2010 right before a messy public divorce. Little Louis was born in New Orleans in January 2010, and Bullock started the adoption process soon before.

Despite personal heartache, she dove into life as a single parent with love and dedication.

In 2015, Bullock then adopted 3-year-old Laila who had been in foster care in Louisiana previously. Mother of two now, Bullock uses her voice to share the joys and challenges of growing through adoption.

Adoption can be domestic or international

Even the “Queen of Pop” is also a proud adoptive mom! Madonna adopted four beautiful children from Malawi many years ago. They are David , Mercy, and twins Esther and Stella.

Her first adoptive son David was just 13 months old when Madonna fell in love with him visiting Malawi. Despite major legal battles and tons of criticism, Madonna persisted and officially made him her son.

In 2009, four-year-old Mercy joined the loving family after another round of court challenges and media scrutiny questioning Madonna’s motives.

Most recently, she adopted twin girls who faced a heartbreaking fate in Malawi as orphans until the artist brought them home. Of course, this latest adoption also sparked controversy over accusations of special celebrity treatment in adoption laws abroad.

She also has daughter Lourdes from a past relationship and son Rocco with ex-husband Guy Ritchie.

Adoption is an act of love, but it’s also a very serious decision. Parents should be prepared to address cross-cultural issues and traumas with the assistance of professionals. Nonetheless, celebrities affirm that it’s worth the journey [5].
